What is the demand for a US-based hosting company in the UK?

As a result of looking for places to advertise on the web regarding our newly-founded hosting company, I came across this web site. The forum looks wonderful and it looks like there are a lot of active people in this community.

As I mentioned above, we just started a hosting company. We own and operate our own datacenter about 20 miles from San Jose, California. We have redundant DS3’s with the ability to expand to OC12’s if needed. We’re 1 hop away from Level 3.

That being said, what is the demand for a US-based hosting company and datacenter in the UK? Do people in the UK and Europe ever choose a US-based hosting company, or do you folks usually stick within your region?

I’m not sure how responsive our servers would be from the UK, which is another reason I’m asking this question. If there is a market for US-based hosting companies within the UK, that’s good news.

I won’t post our URL in this topic so I abide by the forum guidelines, but if you check out my profile there is the URL to our site. If a few of you could test it out and let me know how responsive our site is from the UK, I would appreciate it.

A few years ago US based hosting was more attractive to those in the UK but even then, I expect most went for an east coast location. Nowadays, things have changed quite a bit on the UK scene and there’s not a whole lot of savings to be made on things like bandwidth so I think most go for UK based.

    Lot’s of downsides

    a) Very few US companies seem to own their own hardware, let alone racks, suites or a datacentre!
    b) Huge search engine downsides to hosting outside of the UK (you miss out on UK searches)
    c) Speed factor. Whatever is said, there is a clear speed difference.
