Dedicated or VPS, what best suits my needs?
First post on the forum so hello everybody.
I am interested in sorting out some hosting for my websites and wanted to know whether I need dedicated or VPS.
Here are some of the things I would need the ability to do:
- Create wildcard sub-domains
- Unlimited domains hosted
- Run a forum with 5000+ members
The server load shouldn’t be too high, it’s mainly the fact my other host didn’t support wildcard sub-domains that made me want to switch.
What do you suggest?

Comparing that to a current site I’m running, that sounds like you’d be able to handle that just fine on a VPS pending you had at least 512MB of dedicated ram and burstable to 1-2GB.
I’ve used Wired Tree VPS and even on the basic plan, I had a 15,000 daily pageview website running with an optimized install of Wordpress, and the load has never been over 1.00, even when the site gets hit hard during points of updates.

A VPS will never give u the performance needed for the kind of services you are planning to provide on your site , cause as the traffic increases then there will be connection problems . My suggestion is to go for a fully managed dedicated system with at least 1gb ram and quad core processors.
