Desperate from some helps. Mail to Yahoo problems

Saturday, February 23rd, 2008

I am running a site (in a dedicated box) that require user to confirm email to join the site and I am having a problem sending email to user that has yahoo email account

User that sign-up from my site do get email or if they use the invite function on the site, others who has yahoo email address also do not receive mail either.

I already contact Yahoo, setup domain key and all other stuffs but it still no help.

Can somebody suggest me any server admin can help me to solve this problem? or show me any service out there that I can route my outgoing mail to them and they will send mail through??

My site will die for sure if I can’t fix this problem asap.

Westnic.net Reseller Web Hosting Nightmare

Saturday, February 23rd, 2008

I have reseller account with WestNIC, they switched my servers 2-3 times in a year. Fine. but when they switched they lost all my packages,so i have to recreate all them, not to mention some packages i have no idea what’s the limits i used. No warning that servers are being switched, they just switch and let me know.

So i e-mailed and asked for my cpanel packages to be restored, this is the response!
”This is impossible, sorry. Unfortunately, cPanel will never transfer packages correctly. Please re-create it.”
So i replied and said what i had to say that this is rediculous and i should atleast given a chance to copy my packages…this is the response i get:
”Well, next time we will leave your accounts on the server with broken hard drives. Data was corrupted all the way. You must appreciate what we had done. “

As a WEB HOSTING company isn’t it your basic responsebility to take care of the crappy hardware you have?, but not tell a customer they will leave my accounts on broken hardware? WHAT THE &^%$

Trust but Verify (Site5 scam)

Saturday, February 23rd, 2008

I knew better, didn’t I? Never pre-pay for a year? Never trust any claims on a web site without actually verifying them? Never buy anything from a company whose only published address is a residence (especially if the company claims a large staff)?

Site5 offers one of those “too good to be true” deals, and I decided to test it out. It appears that they took my money, but nothing else. It turns out that their “24/7 online support” isn’t actually available 24/7, but perhaps only from 10am-6pm Eastern Time (this, for a California company). In fact, it appears that the ONLY support option actually offered is email or “online trouble ticket.” No phone support, no live chat. When I try to create a trouble ticket, it redirects me to send an email.

I have no idea what Site5 delivers, if it delivers. I do know that I won’t waste any more time with them.

Mosso considering using page impressions as a basis for pricing

Saturday, February 23rd, 2008

I’m sure many of us are familiar with Mosso, who affectionately call themselves ‘The Hosting System’.

A Mosso staff member recently revealed that a number of plans are to be rolled out during 2008, including a new control panel and adjustments to the pricing model.

The most surprising change I saw was that Mosso realises some sites use up infinitely more server resources (not including disk space and bandwidth), and they’re going to address this by giving all people a generous amount of resource usage that covers the majority of customers, and that can be bought in further allotments if needed.

Sounds very similar to Media Temple’s GPU system, right? Right.

Quick Review: iMountain web hosting

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

I opted to go with a semi-dedicated package from Iron Mountain ( http://www.imountain.com/ ). I was mostly impressed with their clustered solution and dedicated mySQL servers to host our increasingly busy Vbulletin forums. They also answered email inquires very quickly; another good sign, given the few comments I could find about them at WHT. While I was intrigued about the solar-powered claim, I knew that many in our community would appreciate that aspect as well.

Ultimately, I wasn’t quite convinced our forum issues were mainly related to CPU/memory resource use. So, I narrowed my search to providers that also claimed to have a good setup for SQL. These included Cartika Hosting and MediaLayer, among others (Thank you to all who responded with input and offers!). At that point, it came down to lowest price and iMountain’s offer was also in the upper end of the price range supported by recent member donations. In case I was wrong about the CPU resources, at least this would at least allow some time to save for the dedicated solution that many recommended.
