Very pleasant experience with AlwaysWebhosting.com
Monday, February 25th, 2008I would like to make a recommendation for alwayswebhosting. I have used their service for one year and had a great uptime. I have had no critical support issues, but all my general inquiries were replied to promptly and friendly.
I switched to a vps provider in Germany last year only because server location is closer to most of my customers. Unfortuantely, I missed to cancel the paypal recurring payment with alwayswebhosting and was billed for another year. Strangely enough, paypal doesn’t list recurring payments under “recurring payments” as you would suppose, but under “pay list”, so I assumed i already cancelled it.
When I contacted alwayswebhosting with my problem, they didn’t hesitate and refunded the payment. They certainly were not obliged to do so, so it was a very fine gesture.
I am very pleased with my experience with them and would suggest you consider them when you are in need of a reliable hosting account. Ronnie, the owner, is very approachable and most helpful.
I will definately come back if I need shared hosting in the US again!
MySQL Database size limits iHubnet, MediaLayer, Downtownhost, Steadfast
Saturday, February 23rd, 2008My old hosting company was currently bought from another after a series of events. The old owner was very nice, but I don’t feel comfortable with the new company. I have no word on whats the monthly bills etc.. if there are any changes and stuff so I am looking for a new host.
I have a IPB forum with 17,500 users registerd , about 50 active at a time, peaks at 100 sometimes, and my db is around 50mb, more obviously in the near future.
- Steadfast ( Great reviews I just need to know if they have a mysql db limit. )
- DownTownHost ( Great reviews, spoken to Jedito before, again no idea on mysql db size limit. )
- MediaLayer ( I love there speed I visited a forum hosted at the company and it was blazing fast, my only dislike is the lack of cpanel and only directadmin, again unsure mysql db size. )
- IHubNet ( another with great reviews, unsure of mysql db size. )
Anyone know/recommend?
I will have 4 domains, 2 active the other 2 redirecting or parked w/e. 2 ipb forums one with only like 30 users registered small discussion, other large.
Dedicated / VPS Recommendation
Saturday, February 23rd, 2008I run a Drupal-based community site that has been on four different hosting services over the past few years. Everywhere we go, we seem to tax our resources to the max with about 2000-5000 unique visitors per day, about 5000-1000 page loads per day, and several hundred comments per day. Given our traffic levels, it very well could be due more to my amateurish hackery in building the site than the traffic itself.
I’m now in the situation where I need to upgrade the site to Drupal 6.0 anyway, so I wanted to explore a hosting change. The site is currently on a VPS on Rimuhosting.com, and it’s been great, but I’m always over my bandwidth limits and stretching my RAM to the brink of errors. There’s also an IMAP email account I’d like to migrate.

Mailing List Friendly Web Hosting Company
Saturday, February 23rd, 2008Looking for a hosting company that is mailing list friendly. By that I mean my business sends out our list 2-3 times a month to about 30,000 email addresses.
My current hosting is split dedicated service that worked great the first month I had it now it’s taking 2 and 3 times as long as it should to send the list. They are trying to get me on a full dedicated server for this.
By friendly I mean they allow unlimited outgoing mail and not the 11 per connection or 500 per day you see at some companies.
My list is a user requested list with all spam compliant opt in and out functions.
