SEO best: advertising subdomain, folder or straight url?

Saturday, March 1st, 2008

If I have a forum website (just like this one) that has sections for different cities, I want to make it easy for visitors to go directly to their city section on the forum.

Therefore, I could do it in the usual 2 ways:

1. www.domain.com/city

2. city.domain.com

However, because of the nature of vBulletin forums, I would have to simply forward the url above to the less attractive http://www.domain.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=43 which would equate to the city forum specified.

Ok this QU. is less quick than I thought.

Advice - SEO issues with 100’s of domains

Saturday, March 1st, 2008

I want to buy 100’s of .co.uk domains and then put a few pages of unique and relevent content on each site. These sites will preferably be on the same server, though we could use several servers. All the domains will probably have the same whois information. I am concerned about Google seeing these as spam sites because of the number of sites on the same ip address having the same whois info.

As far as you know, as a domain registrar, can google ascertain the whois information of a domain and then link that with other domains to establish the ownership of 100’s of domains? Are we likely to be banned by the SE’s for owning and hosting so many domains/web sites? Companies such as Marchex must get around this somehow without their sites getting banned - any idea how? HELP!

How important is your URL name relevancy in SEO?

Saturday, March 1st, 2008

How important is the relevancy of your URL in SEO? For instance if I own a flower shop in NYC. Is it important to have NYCflowers.com instead of GregsTulips.com? How much consideration if any do search engines take in the URL when deciding placement?

Is it good to buy keyword variations of my domain name? Will that hurt my standings in search? I am considering buying other names but am not sure if this will hurt or help me…
