Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

Most people starting an Online Business are so concerned with the products and services they intend to promote online that they neglect or overlook the importance of choosing the right domain name for their website. A domain name is the name of your online business which is used by internet users to identify and locate your website. Choosing the right name should be your first priority for Online Success. In fact many new entrepreneurs are ignorant of the role this name plays in their online businesses and choose names which have little or no relevance to their business. The following smart tips will help you proceed along the right lines.

1. Short and Memorable Name

Choose a name that is short, memorable and easy to pronounce. It is much easier to remember a simple short name rather a long one. Word of mouth advertisement is considered to be one of the most popular modes of advertising a business and a short and memorable name is ideal for people to remember your business and pass the word around. It also becomes handy for offline advertising. Unfortunately today most of the popular short names have been taken, nevertheless if online success is your goal you can use your ingenuity and come up with good names.

2. Simple and Easy to Spell

The domain name should be simple and easy to spell and display professionalism. This would lead them to some other website instead of yours and you will be the looser.

Registering a domain name for the first time? I assume you have many questions in your mind. In this article, let us go through 5 FAQ on how to choose a good domain name.

1) What domain name should I choose?

You should choose a domain name that is meaningful. For example, if you are going to build an information site about gorilla, naturally, you should register “allaboutgorilla.info” instead of “allaboutmonkeys.info”.

However, if you are building an information website about different types of monkeys, the “allaboutmonkeys.info” is preferred. In fact, when you are writing about gorilla, you can simply name the page as “allaboutmonkeys.infogorilla.html”.

EPP code … how is it usually received?

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

Does the WHOIS information have to be accurate to get this transfer done right? I have a domain that was transferred to me, but I never changed the registration contacts (the WHOIS stuff) to my information. Now I’d like to transfer away from GoDaddy to Namecheap, but if the EPP code is mailed or emailed, I’ll have no way to retrieve it. Does it just show up in GoDaddy as “someone has requested a transfer for this domain”? Or do I actually have to have a valid email? And if I do change it, won’t that begin a 60 day lockdown period?
